OS30 Specialised works categories

SOA category OS30

Internal electrical, telephone, radiotelephone and television systems

OS30 covers internal electrical and telecommunication systems in buildings and infrastructure: supply, installation and maintenance of electrical, telephone, data and television systems. Together with OS3 and OS28, it makes up the general category OG11 Technological systems. It is essential in every new build and renovation.

SOA certification OS30: areas of application

OS30 is needed wherever there are electrical and data systems inside a building. The main sectors:

  • Residential buildings: power distribution, switchboards, residual current devices, earthing, lighting and provisions for electric vehicle charging.
  • Public buildings and offices: schools, hospitals and institutional buildings, with LED lighting, emergency systems, cabling and Wi-Fi.
  • Data networks: copper and fibre cabling inside buildings, server rooms and rack cabinets.
  • Special systems: video surveillance, intruder alarms, access control, smoke detection, door entry systems and home automation.
  • Industry and hospitals: ward switchboards, uninterruptible power supplies, emergency generators and medical rooms compliant with CEI 64-8.

In short: OS30 is the technological backbone of buildings, present in every modern project.

SOA categories related to OS30

OG11
Integrated technological systems

groups together OS3, OS28 and OS30. Companies holding OG11 can carry out OS30 works in the same classification.

OG1 / OG2
Civil or listed buildings

OS30 is the most frequent separable category in OG1 and OG2 contracts; above 10% of the amount it must be stated in the call for tenders.

OG10
External electrical distribution and public lighting systems

is the external twin of OS30: substations, power lines and public lighting. OS30 stops inside the building.

OS19
Public telecommunication networks

brings the operator’s fibre up to the technical room; from there to the sockets it is OS30.

OS3 and OS28
The other specialised categories of the OG11 trio

OS30 powers and controls water and heating systems, from heat pumps to building management systems.

Why it pays to qualify in OS30

OS30 is the heart of Italian building services: no modern building works without it. Demand is growing due to:
· the energy transition, with photovoltaics and charging points;
· the digital transformation of offices, data centres and smart buildings.

If you work with electrical, telephone or data systems, obtain OS30 in the right classification in good time: it is the passport to a growing market and protects you from SIOS constraints.

SOA category OS30: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between OS30 and OG10?

OS30 is internal: low-voltage electrical systems inside buildings. OG10 is external: transformer substations, overhead and underground lines, public lighting.

In the OG11 CELs, should the OS30 amount be shown separately?

Yes. The CEL must show the amount of the OS30 works alone, separate from the contract total, so that the SOA can verify the requirements.

Does a subcontractor also need OS30?

Yes. Anyone carrying out OS30 works worth 150,000 euros or more, including as a subcontractor, must hold SOA OS30 in the appropriate classification.

Your next move?

Demonstrate your requirements and turn this knowledge into action: make sure you have the right SOA qualification and don’t hesitate to invest in training and innovation.
